Microsoft has made two major announcements surrounding its Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems. The first will not be affected by feature updates and the second will be available in the LTSC version soon. What is it about?
Before talking about Windows 11 LTSC, it is an important announcement to stop feature updates for Windows 10. Its latest feature update has allowed it to become the 22H2 version. This is now the definitive and final version.
From now on, Microsoft will only focus on fixing bugs and solving security issues. Windows 10 will no longer receive the new functionality. Its evolution is complete. Support for Home and Pro versions is planned until October 2025. Microsoft has not made any statement regarding the possibility of extending its life through the ESU program, Eextended SSecurity Updates.
Microsoft Windows 11 LDSC
The other big news is about Windows 11. Redmond confirms that the LTSC version of Windows 11 will be available in 2024. LTSC stands for it. I amNGO DM SSweeping V.SHanal. This is not really an innovation, but a catch-up because at the launch of the OS, at the end of 2022, no LTSC version was announced and offered. Versions have arrived
- and IoT.
This fix is welcome knowing that Windows 10 is currently the only target if you want to opt for such a version. Microsoft has announced two LTSC versions of Windows 11
- Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC
- Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC
Their release is scheduled for the second half of 2024. The company did not release any other information. We know this shortens the lifespan of Windows 10 Enterprise and IoT LTSC to five years from 2021. The same policy applies to both versions of Windows 11 LTSC, which means they will be supported until 2029.
